Tree 111 - Foamex Offcuts

I like putting materials that would otherwise be thrown out to good use.

Tree 110 - Foamex

This was another tree that did not turn out as well as I imagined it would.  Foamex is a material that will bend when heated.  You heat it with a hairdryer or a heat gun and use some kind of former to bend it into shape.  You have to be careful because if you try to bend it too forcefully or you have not heated it enough it can snap.

This is where some careful planning can be your friend.  I didn't really plan out how I was going to bend this at all and so I didn't have any proper forms to help make the shapes I was trying to make.  This meant some of my branches snapped and others just didn't really budge into any kind of good shape at all.

Tree 108 - Pompoms and Fringed Wool

This is another tree I really like and think would be good for stop-motion.  It's really simple as well.  Just a few pom-poms and wool on a wire frame.

Tree 107 - Embroidery Thread

More left-overs from college.  Planted in an old tea light.

Tree 106 - Magazine cut-out

I can't remember what the magazine was or what the festival that I think this was advertising was but I just loved the colours and the shapes and had to repurpose them.

Tree 105 - Pen and Shapes

You might be getting (a correct) impression that I quite like doing doodles.  They are really great if you don't have a lot of time, space or materials.  All you need is a surface and something to mark it with and away you go.

Tree 104 - Dashes of Pencil

Coloured Pencil this time and a rainy mood.

Tree 103 - Coloured Pen Doodle 3

More doodling with the pens.

Tree 102 - Felt, foam and a touch of tweed.

I had random bits and pieces of material left over from old college projects, so I threw them together and this was the result.  I quite like this one.  I think with a bit of tweeking and some friends it would make a good backround for a stop-motion animation.

Tree 101 - Abstract roots

Sometimes a pen, a piece of paper and playing with shapes turns out quite nicely.

Tree 100 - Coloured Pencil shavings

Yay! Finally hit the 100 mark.  You may or may not have noticed the gap in time between tree 95 and  now.  This was mainly due to the fact that I had got a model making job (replacing someone on maternity leave) and didn't have the time to keep taking photos and uploading, even though I kept making trees.

When I finished in that job it had been so long since I'd posted anything that I wasn't sure there was much point in posting again anymore.  I hate leaving things unfinished though and I still had several trees that I kept moving from place to place until I had a chance to photograph them.  Looking back over the old blog posts as well, I found several trees that I really like and I remembered how good it was as an creative inspiration.

So here I am again.  I've finally found the time to get back to my trees.  I have photographed all the ones that I made and I will get those uploaded.  Then I will continue making more trees until I have reached the 365.

Tree 99 - Bamboo Mat

A wee experiment.  I thought I'd paint a tree on a bamboo sushi mat to see how it looked.  I thought It would be more interesting but the poor end result may have more to do with my dodgy painting skills than a bad idea.

Tree 98 - Coloured Pen Doodle 2

A more Tropical doodle!

Tree 97 - Coloured Pen Doodle 1

I bought some coloured pens, so I thought I'd test drive them by drawing a tree.  I wanted to play around with shapes and shades.

Tree 96 - Simple String

Just playing with some string and knots.
